Mahanoy Area gives tentative approval to $3.7M upgrade project

MAHANOY CITY – The Mahanoy Area School District tentatively approved an agreement Wednesday night with a Dauphin County company for $3.7 Million in district-wide upgrades.

The approval of the agreement with McClure Company is contingent on the approval of the district’s solicitor.

Superintendent Joie Green said the plan is to upgrade lighting across the district to LEDs, as well as to equip each elementary classroom with air conditioning.

Fencing upgrades will also be done at Alumni Stadium, the superintendent said.

Part of the funding for the upgrades will come from the American Rescue Plan’s Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Fund, or ESSER.
