PITTSTON TWP., Luzerne County – For most of Saturday’s game, neither team could find an advantage.

Ashland and East Side, of West Chester, both scored a single run in the first inning in Saturday’s Little League 9-11 state tournament opener, but stellar defensive performances for both squads kept the score tied through the next two innings.

Ashland pitcher Robert Selgrade saw only three batters in the second and third inning.

The fourth inning, though, is where East Side found an advantage, a rhythm, and a victory, all in the same frame.

East Side scored 13 runs in the top of the fourth, none of which Ashland could answer, giving East Side a 14-1 victory in four innings.

Ashland is still alive in the state tournament, facing White Marsh tomorrow at 11:00am in Pittston Township for an elimination game.
