HVAC system issue draws fire response to dialysis center near Mt. Carmel

DON SCICCHITANO / SPECIAL TO SHENANDOAH SENTINEL - Fire crews at the DaVita Northumberland dialysis center Friday morning.

STRONG, Northumberland County – Firefighters from around the Mount Carmel area responded to a dialysis center near this Mount Carmel Township village Friday.

Firefighters were called to the DaVita Northumberland center on Route 61 around 11:30am.

According to first responders on the scene, an issue with the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) system caused a smoke condition in the waiting area of the facility.

The facility was promptly evacuated, with Mt. Carmel Township Police arriving to find everyone out.

Crews remained on scene for about an hour and a half investigating, making sure there was no active fire.

Responding were firefighters from Strong, Atlas, Kulpmont, Locust Gap, Mount Carmel, and more, as well Mt. Carmel Township Police, AREA Services EMS, and Elysburg EMS.
