SHENANDOAH – The unit block of South Grant Street on the east end has reopened to traffic, after a contractor cleared the debris from the roadway.

Kass’s Contracting handled the clean-up to reopen the roadway after an abandoned triplex at 23-27 South Grant Street collapsed yesterday.

The homes collapsed into the alleyway around 7:00pm last night. Fire marshals and police officers responded to the scene to survey the damage, and no one was injured.

The borough streets department closed the road down and the property was roped off with caution tape.

Kass’s Contracting downed the front half of the property, moving debris from the roadway onto the lot, while the rear portion of the triplex remains standing. How the debris pile and remainder of the building will be handled is up to the borough.

The triplex was damaged in an arson fire on January 2, 2008, according to local newspaper archives. The properties have  remained standing in a blighted condition since. On August 11, 2018, the homes suffered a partial collapse. Fire marshals responded, referring the matter to the borough.
