TRENTON – A garage, the last remnant of a property decimated by fire last year, burned today, along with an adjacent Jeep.

Firefighters were called to a garage at 83 Trenton Road in Delano Township around 10:40am for a reported garage fire.

Mahanoy City Fire Chief Dan Markiewicz was one of the first to the scene and arrived to find fire coming from the east side of the garage and engulfing a Jeep SUV.

Markiewicz said the bulk of the fire was knocked down with the water tanks from Mahanoy City Engine 48-15 and Ryan Township Engine 26-10. Delano Township Engine 6-10 supplied 48-15 via a hydrant in the village.

Prior to the arrival of a Delano Fire Co. officer, Markiewicz had command.

He said the building was searched after a report indicated someone was inside, though they were located in Shenandoah.

No one was hurt in the firefight, and a tanker task force, which included Shenandoah’s Polish American, Walker Township’s New England, and Mahanoy City’s Good American fire companies, was cancelled.

Also assisting were firefighters from Hometown and McAdoo and EMS from Ryan Township.

State Police at Frackville were also on scene to investigate.
