WALKER TOWNSHIP – Flames and an explosion rocked a storage building at Koch’s Turkey Farm in Walker Township Saturday afternoon.

Shortly before 3:00pm, fire crews were dispatched to 50 Zehners Crossing Road in Walker Township for reports of a fully-involved structure fire.

Crews arrived to find a storage shed engulfed in flames, sending thick, black smoke high into the sky, visible from as far away as Hometown, Tamaqua, Mahoning Valley, and New Tripoli.

A tanker task force had to be dispatched due to the fire’s remote location.

Fire crews from across eastern Schuylkill County and western Carbon County responded to the fire.

No turkeys or people were injured in the fire.

A state police fire marshal is investigating.
