ELECTION RESULTS: Padora, Boots win Republican nods for commissioner; Halcovage 7th

POTTSVILLE – Larry Padora and Barron “Boots” Hetherington will be the Republican nominees for county commissioner, according to the unofficial final results published by the county.

In a crowded field seeking the party’s two nominations, the New Ringgold councilman and Pattersonville farmer emerged as the highest votegetters.

Embattled incumbent George Halcovage came in 7th out of 8 candidates. Halcovage had been the subject of a state house investigation and a federal lawsuit regarding sexual harassment allegations.

The results for the Republican commissioner’s race are as follows:

2. Barron Boots Hetherington – 5,210
3. Mary Jo Moss – 4,534
4. Maria Casey – 3,751
5. Jeffrey J. Dunkel – 2,819
6. Dan Evans – 2,674
7. George Halcovage – 2,545
8. Ray Jones – 2,001

Hetherington and Padora will face the two Democratic candidates, who ran unopposed in the primary, in November. They are incumbent Gary Hess and former Shenandoah Valley school director Rita Anczarski Baldino.
