UPDATE: East Centre reopened after pedestrian struck

UPDATE 4pm: East Centre Street has reopened.

SHENANDOAH – One person was taken to a local hospital and a main thoroughfare in town is closed after an accident Saturday.

Officers said a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle in the unit block of East Centre around midday Saturday.

Police at the scene said East Centre Street from Main to White will be closed as a State Police accident reconstruction team investigates the incident.

A blue 2009 Ford Focus was stopped in the eastbound travel lane of East Centre during the investigation.

Shenandoah and West Mahanoy Township Police responded to the scene.

The victim’s identity and condition were not available midday Saturday.

As of 1pm, East Centre remained closed at Main and Shenandoah Fire Police are directing traffic around the scene.
