SHENANDOAH – Downtown Shenandoah, Inc. is getting nearly $34,000 towards the Center for Education, Business, and the Arts, the Department of Community and Economic Development announced Monday.

The funding is part of $36 Million approved through the Neighborhood Assistance Program, which the state says is to assist low-income individuals and improve distressed areas in Pennsylvania communities.

The NAP provides tax credits to businesses that contribute to nonprofit organizations’ efforts to revitalize communities.

DSI plans to “purchase equipment that will benefit an underserved area by providing employment for people in an area with high unemployment rates.”

“Equipment will be accessed by people renting space and those seeking a collaborative working environment where they can find resources and information to build businesses and strengthen their professionalism,” the release said. “DSI is dedicated to driving innovation and empowering community members, the equipment will create a space for people to ideate, prototype and transform their ideas into tangible solutions to everyday challenges.”

M&T Bank and Mid Penn Bank were the contributing businesses in the program.

The funding comes through the Special Program Priorities component of the NAP, which “targets on specific problems and projects which the state has designated as priorities.”
