SHENANDOAH – A man killed in a crash on Shenandoah’s outskirts at midday Monday has been identified as a 59-year-old Pattersonville man.

Deputy Coroner Andrew J. Szczyglak identified the man as Anthony C. Campanicki, 59, of Strawberry Lane.

Szczyglak said no cause of death as been determined yet, and that a toxicology report and CAT scan will be done later this evening at the coroner’s office. He said Campanicki was pronounced dead at the scene at 12:25pm.

Borough police Chief George Carado told the Sentinel Campanicki was headed east on Route 54 towards Mahanoy City when his vehicle, a Chevy Trailblazer, struck a roadside embankment near Yatesville Road and rolled around 11:30am.

As the vehicle was rolling, the Campanicki was ejected, landing on the pavement for either the old Route 54 alignment or a long gone roadside business.

The Trailblazer continued, rolling backwards into a tree at the intersection of Route 54 and Yatesville Road.

Carado said Campanicki passed away at the scene.

Firefighters from Shenandoah’s Columbia, Rescue Hook and Ladder, Defender, and Polish American responded — the former pair to the scene itself and the latter standing by in town for a potential landing zone or handling traffic at Centre and Bridge.
