County to demolish blighted West Cherry Street building

SHENANDOAH – A blighted building on West Cherry Street will be knocked down soon.

County Commissioners approved a contract last week to have a double block home at Ferguson and Cherry Streets demolished.

Trendsetters Investments LLC, of Shenandoah, was awarded the project at a cost of $13,950.

Community Development Block Grant funds will be used to take down the building.

The county also approved other demolition projects in the region.

In Ashland, AMC Enterprise was awarded two projects: 1239 Arch Street for $8,444, and 932, 936, and 938 Walnut Street for $23,888.

Affordable Construction and Demolition, of Coal Township, was also awarded two projects in Ashland: 1133-1135 Walnut Street for $24,699 and 1728 Walnut Street for $24,695.

They will also take down a property in Girardville: 240 West Preston Avenue for $45,000.

Also in Girardville, Dudash Pipeline Co., of Pottsville, will demolish 137 East Main Street for $22,144.

There is still no update on when action will be taken to demolish the former M&T Quart Store at Cherry and Main Street, which has shown signs of imminent collapse, leading to the closure of the sidewalk around the building.
