County approves seeking bids for blight demolition projects in area

SHENANDOAH – Ten blighted properties could soon come down as part of the county’s blight demolition program.

County commissioners approved seeking bids on projects in Shenandoah, West Mahanoy Township, Girardville, Mahanoy City, and Ryan Township at Wednesday’s regular meeting.

In Shenandoah, the lone property is a home at 207 West Arlington Street that partially collapsed in September.

In Ryan Township, the only property is a collapsing barn at 7 Mansure Road, which was subject to a lengthy legal battle. Supervisors said in October they envision a pavilion on the site.

Four homes in West Mahanoy Township are also on the list. They are at 4 Newtown Road, 257 Mount Olive Boulevard, and 411 Mount Olive Boulevard in William Penn, and 1157 West Lloyd Street in Brownsville.

The township purchased the homes in October for the demolition program.

In Mahanoy City, the properties set to be knocked down are at 504 West Market Street and 512-514 West Centre Street.

In Girardville, 7-9 West Ogden Street and 341 West Mahanoy Avenue are both slated for demolition.

Bids will be opened on April 8.
