Chamber discusses street cleaning downtown

KAYLEE LINDENMUTH / SHENANDOAH SENTINEL - Rocks and dirt are seen along the unit block of North Main Street in downtown Shenandoah on March 16, 2023.

SHENANDOAH – Dirt and debris along Main Street was a topic of discussion at Thursday’s Greater Shenandoah Area Chamber of Commerce meeting.

Sasha Sherry, of Sherry Dental on East Centre St., said business owners on Main Street had noticed a lot of dirt and debris along the town’s main thoroughfare.

Sherry noted that, the last time the chamber discussed the issue, Shenandoah borough’s street sweeper was down for maintenance, and she suggested potentially assisting the borough with repairs.

“Keeping things a little more tidy would be awesome,” Sherry said. “To say the Chamber provided that would be big for our end.”

Mark Bernardyn, of M&T Bank, said, previously, every Thursday, storefront proprietors would check to see if their area was clean.

Renee Buchanan, of the Schuylkill Chamber, said borough workers were downtown recently, sweeping the area by hand. She suggested contacting the borough to find out the status of the sweeper before committing to anything.
