Carbon, Columbia to move to yellow; Schuylkill left out again

HARRISBURG – Two neighboring counties — including one who will share no border with another yellow county — will be moving to yellow phase next Friday, while Schuylkill remains in red for at least another two weeks.

The announcement came Friday afternoon, when Governor Tom Wolf revealed the next slate of 12 counties moving to yellow.

Two counties neighboring Schuylkill are in the new set — Columbia and Carbon. The list also includes Adams, Beaver, Cumberland, Juniata, Mifflin, Perry, Susquehanna, Wyoming, Wayne, and York.

“This virus has not been eradicated from these counties, and we are continuing to closely monitor new case counts,” Wolf said in a tweet. “It’s in every Pennsylvanian’s best interest to continue to take social distancing seriously.”

“We will continue to take a scientific-based approach to reopening,” he added.

Carbon County’s move to yellow will be a lonesome one, as no bordering county will be moving to yellow with it.

Moving from red to yellow means the stay-at-home order is lifted for the county, and residents are able to gather in groups of up to 25. Some additional businesses will also be able to open, though gyms, barber shops, nail salons, and such will remain closed.
