Brush fire burns hillside near Merriam

MERRIAM, Northumberland County – Firefighters from across the tri-county area, assisted by the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, tackled a hillside brush fire near this village Sunday afternoon.

Crews were dispatched around 1:22pm for a fire along the Merriam-Mt. Carmel Highway not far from the village itself in Mt. Carmel Township.

Firefighters from Mount Carmel Township, Wilburton, Lavelle, Ashland, Fountain Springs, Coal Township, and more were called to battle the fire.

The incident was brought under control in about an hour and a half.

No injuries were reported.
