Battery sparks office fire at Humboldt plant

HUMBOLDT, Luzerne County – A battery failure was to blame for a small fire at a plant in the Humboldt Industrial Park Wednesday afternoon.

Firefighters were called to the Aryzta plant on Chestnut Hill Drive around 4:30pm for a reported commercial fire.

Hazle Township Fire Chief Scott Kostician said a battery on a charger failed in an office, sparking a small fire.

KAYLEE LINDENMUTH / SHENANDOAH SENTINEL – Fire apparatus is parked outside Aryzta.

“It burned an office chair and some other small items in the office, a shelf, a box and some things,” Kostician told the Sentinel. “Sprinklers activated, and did put the fire out.”

No injuries were reported.

Responding to the scene were firefighters from Hazle Township, Harwood, and Sheppton-Oneida.
