Ashland seeking grant for sidewalk, curb improvements on East Centre

ASHLAND – Ashland Borough Council is seeking state funding to improve the sidewalks and curbs on East Centre Street between Mahanoy and Front Streets over the Mahanoy Creek.

Council approved two motions related to the grant application at last week’s council meeting.

The borough is seeking $350,000 in funding from the state’s Multimodal Transportation Fund.

If received, the grant will be used for curb and sidewalk replacements and handicap ramps on East Centre between Front and Mahanoy Streets.

That is where Centre Street crosses the Mahanoy Creek.

In other business, borough council approved the Washington Fire Co. hosting AppleFest at Eureka Park on Saturday, Oct. 14 from 10am to 4pm, as well as the return of 9/11 Memorial Service at the firehouse on Monday, Sept. 11 6pm to 8pm. For the latter, the fire company requested permission to close North 13th Street from 5pm to 9pm.
