Trash fire sparks brush fire on southside
SHENANDOAH – A motley crew of fire departments handled a brush fire on the borough’s southside while firefighters continued to work at the Dollar General fire in Turkey Run.
Just before 7pm, firefighters were called to the area of South Catherine and West Poplar Streets for a reported brush fire.
A black column of smoke could be seen from the Turkey Run fire scene.
Shenandoah’s Defender Hose Co. responded along with Shenandoah Heights, Aristes, and Schuylkill Haven’s Liberty.
Shenandoah Heights Fire Chief Steven Quinn said a trash fire caught brush along a hillside in the woodlands south of Poplar Street.
No injuries were reported and no structures were threatened in the fire.
Aristes and Schuylkill Haven were in town to assist Shenandoah at the Dollar General fire and covered the borough when they were no longer needed at that scene.
