Borough to purchase cars, equipment from former New Castle police force
SHENANDOAH – Borough Council approved Monday the purchase of two vehicles, as well as assorted equipment from the former New Castle Township Police Department.
New Castle disbanded their police force two years ago in a split vote. The department was founded shortly after the construction of the Schuylkill Mall, using tax dollars from the mall.
The department had a 2009 Ford Expedition and a 2018 Ford Police Interceptor Utility, two radios for the vehicles, two shotguns, an AR-15, speed equipment, and more. The Utility has 20,000 miles on it, he said.
“Basically everything from their police force, they offered us,” Tony Sajone, borough manager said.
The equipment and vehicles would be purchased with funds from the police forfeiture fund.
Sajone declined to provide a purchase price, as a final price has not yet been negotiated.
He said the two vehicles, plus a new Dodge Durango which has been ordered, will supplement the department’s fleet for now. The department currently has a 2013 Ford Police Interceptor Utility, a 2016 Dodge Charger, and a 2017 Ford Police Interceptor Utility.
