FRACKVILLE – Expect additional road closures in the area of the culvert project at Third and Arch Streets after flooding caused damage to it Wednesday evening.

Heavy rains moved through the south and central portions of Schuylkill County, as well as the Frackville area.

As is typical, the Little Mahanoy Creek overflowed its banks, flooding the area of Dutch Kitchen and Rite Aid, rushing down Laurel and Arch streets.

The flood waters made their way back into the Little Mahanoy at Third and Arch, but not before clogging drains and washing out part of the gravel and stone used to cover the new culverts.

By 8:30pm, flood waters had largely receded, though the front yard of a home at Third and Arch was akin to a swamp.

Borough officials were on site to evaluate the situation, and said roads will be closed in the area and the culvert contractor, EK Services, was on the way to repair the damage and pump out the flooded front yard.
