Mahanoy man falls asleep on Burma, hits tree
BLYTHE TWP. – A Mahanoy City man escaped injury when he fell asleep at the wheel on Burma Road about a mile outside Saint Clair yesterday afternoon.
The crash happened around 2:40pm Tuesday, State Police at Frackville said, when 20-year-old Jordan Lipshaw, of Mahanoy City, was headed south on “the Burma” in a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee.
Entering a right-hand corner, Lipshaw fell asleep, troopers said, and his Jeep cross the oncoming lane, crossed the northbound shoulder, and left the roadway.
The Jeep drove over several large rocks on the road before striking a tree.
Lipshaw was seatbelted and uninjured, though his vehicle was severely damaged and had to be towed from the scene.
Troopers said Lipshaw will be cited for the crash.
