OLMC procession to go on, in modified form

SHENANDOAH – The 106th annual Our Lady of Mount Carmel procession will go on, albeit in a modified form, despite the coronavirus pandemic.
This year’s procession is set for Sunday, July 19 at Divine Mercy Parish, Cherry and Chestnut Streets.
The procession will follow the 9:30am mass at the church.
The church posted the following to their website:
“We will have a modified procession which will be from Divine Mercy Church through the parking lot up to the front porch of Annunciation Rectory accompanied by the band. At approximately 1:15 PM, the statue will be processed back to the church through the parking lot for closing ceremonies.
“The Cinta makers are encouraged to make their Cintas, bring them to church and carry them in the procession up to the front porch of Annunciation Rectory with the statue.
“Whoever will want to pin money on the statue themselves, must be wearing a mask or give it to one of the individuals on the porch.
“We strongly encourage everyone to wear a mask and practice social distancing. At the present time, there is no music at Mass. However, the Italian hymns will be recited at the appropriate times.”
The Upper Schuylkill Marching Band will perform during the procession once again, and practices are set for the next two weeks in preparation.
The procession usually traverses the majority of the west end of town, as far as the Glover’s Hill section. The procession is entering it’s 106th year, the 6th year organized as part of Divine Mercy Parish. For 100 years prior, it was organized as part of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish.
