LETTER: Historical Society remains dedicated to community, despite downspout theft
The members of the Greater Shenandoah Historical Society are a group of dedicated individuals who have volunteered their time and energy to creating a setting where memorabilia from Shenandoah’s past can be placed on display.
The work is selfless but also gratifying as this labor of love will provide future generations with a home to house remnants of Shenandoah’s proud past.
Maintaining this building is a costly endeavor that quite often is dealt with from hand to mouth.
Without the generosity of the Twardzik family and some individual contributors, there would be no Historical Society.
Over the past year, besides normal maintenance, a new roof, down spouts and new windows were installed and our membership now felt they could now see a light at the end of the tunnel.
Sad to say that light diminished this past week when it was discovered that the down spout at the rear of the building was stolen.
Although disheartened by this callous act, we will continue in our attempts to maintain the Historical Society located on the southeast corner of Main & Cherry Streets.
We would also like to ask the public to assist us by keeping an eye on the building and notifying the police should they notice any suspicious activity.
Help us maintain the pride that was formulated in Shenandoah’s past and remain evident in its future.
