Minersville downs Shenandoah, 47-6

MINERSVILLE – In a rematch of a week three matchup where the Miners blanked Shenandoah 41-0 on the west end, it was more of the same Friday night in Minersville.
A record-breaking Minersville pass-attack gave the Battlin’ Miners, who entered the game 3-5, a distinct advantage.
The first score came midway into the first quarter, with a rush by senior Minersville quarterback Scott Schwalm. A failed extra point gave the Miners a 6-0 advantage with about 7:00 left in the first.
Not long after, Schwalm connected with receivers Jared Graeff and Gabe Davis to hold a 20-0 lead entering the second quarter.
By the 5:00 mark of the fourth quarter, Minersville had amassed a 47-0 lead over the Devils, though, with about 2:44 to go, quarterback Joseph ‘Junebug’ Karvois found the endzone on a run, putting the Devils on the board, avoiding their fourth shutout of the year.
Minersville’s Schwalm surpassed the 4,000 passing yards in his career with Friday’s performance, becoming the first in school history to do such a thing. Schwalm also broke the career passing touchdowns and season passing touchdowns record.
Shenandoah Valley now stands at 0-9 entering next week’s Route 54 Rivalry against the 6-3 Mahanoy Area Golden Bears. Minersville now stands at 4-5.
