WILLIAM PENN – Shortly after 2:30pm Tuesday, fire crews from Altamont, William Penn, and Mahanoy City were dispatched to the intersection of Mount Olive Boulevard (PA Route 54) and Raven Run Road in the village for reports of a vehicle accident with entrapment.
Crews found a silver sedan on its side in an embankment behind the William Penn Softball field, with a male driver trapped inside.
Firefighters from Mahanoy City West End’s Rescue 993, the Altamont Fire Company, and William Penn Fire Company extricated the driver and executed a rope rescue to transport the man from the vehicle to an awaiting Frackville ambulance on Route 54.
During the incident, fire crews had Route 54 closed from Saint Paul Street to Raven Run Road, as the rescue occurred.
Crews were clearing the scene shortly before 3:30, as Steve’s Towing, of Shenandoah, attempted to remove the vehicle.
Also on scene were police officers from Shenandoah and West Mahanoy Township, and a Shenandoah ambulance.
