BARNESVILLE – A longtime staple in northern Schuylkill County is closing, days after the appeal window closed on a zoning change for the property.

In a statement, Mountain Valley Golf Course confirmed to the Sentinel that the facility off the Burma Road at Brockton Mountain Drive will close after the 2026 golf season.

In addition to golf, the facility has been a go-to wedding, prom, and event venue in the region.

“The golf courses and event venue are scheduled to close during October of this year, with the entire complex being purchased for future commercial and industrial business use,” Mountain Valley said in a statement to the Sentinel. “Mountain Valley has been a meaningful part of the community for many years, and we are incredibly proud of the memories, events, and relationships built here over that time.”

For scholastic golfers from Shenandoah Valley and Mahanoy Area in a co-op, Mountain Valley has been their home course for more than two decades, Mahanoy Area Athletic Director Eric Moucheron told the Sentinel Saturday evening.

“We have always valued their partnership,” Moucheron said. “To date we have not received any notice of sale from the course to my knowledge, we found out the same way the rest of the community did.”

“The future will include some scheduling creativity, but, we will adapt, and move forward,” he added. “We intend to make the best out of our final upcoming golf season at Mountain Valley.”

Mountain Valley Corporation and Yudacot Limited Partnership, owners of the course, asked Ryan Township Supervisors in August to consider rezoning the course.

The main portion of the complex, including the event venue and pro shop, was zoned industrial while the remainder of the course was zoned residential.

Representatives at the time told supervisors that the move is to “make the course uniform to enable us to be prepared for the future” but cautioned that the golf course planned to stay in business.

Alvin Marshall, an attorney representing the firms, echoed the same at a Feb. 9 hearing to consider the change after a township resident expressed skepticism that a project wasn’t already in the works.

He said said their request was to “unify the entire golf course to make it ready if in fact a project comes along. That’s all.”

Yudacot sold the Bendinsky Airport property, adjacent to the golf course, which later became the site of two warehouses.

Supervisors voted to approve the change along with three ordinances to regulate warehouses, data centers, and solar farms.

Under the Pennsylvania Municipalities Planning Code, there was a 30-day window to appeal the decision. That window lapsed shortly before Mountain Valley announced plans to close.

“We remain fully committed to delivering a great experience throughout the entire 2026 season,” Mountain Valley said in a statement. “Golfers, event guests, and community members can expect business to continue as usual, with all scheduled tournaments, outings, and events moving forward as planned.”

“We are deeply grateful to our staff, loyal customers, and the broader community for their continued support,” they added. “It has been an honor to serve as a gathering place for so many.”

Mountain Valley did not identify the entity that is purchasing the property.
