One injured in early morning Main Street crash

Girardville fire company, covering for SFD, responds

SHENANDOAH – One man was injured after he narrowly avoided striking the historic former Pennsylvania Railroad freight station at the south end of town early Sunday morning.

The crash happened around 3am in the 400 block of South Main Street.

A Mazda hatchback was headed north on Main Street entering town in snowy conditions when the vehicle left the roadway and struck a fence and concrete surrounding a basement access to the railroad station.

The latter impact caused the vehicle to lose a wheel.

While the Shenandoah Fire Department handled a house fire on West Arlington Street, firefighters from the Rangers Hose Co. in Girardville responded to the scene. The Polish American Fire Co. of the SFD responded shortly after.

The driver was checked out by Shenandoah Ambulance.

Shenandoah PD is investigating.
