SUV downs mailbox, stop sign, strikes house and flees scene

SHENANDOAH – State troopers are seeking an SUV that downed a mailbox and stop sign before striking a house and taking off on Shenandoah’s west end Saturday morning.

The incident happened at Gilbert and Centre streets around 9am Saturday.

A 1990’s Chevrolet SUV — either a Tahoe or Suburban — headed west on Centre Street attempted to turn onto North Gilbert Street.

The vehicle slid in snowy conditions, striking the stop sign and mailbox at the corner before striking a home.

The vehicle stopped on the sidewalk before backing up and continuing on North Gilbert Street.

They then failed to stop at the stop sign at Lloyd Street, turning eastbound on West Lloyd Street.

The SUV’s license plate was obscured by accumulated snow.

Damage could be seen on the corner home and the homeowner shared photos of cracked interior walls as a result of the crash.
