SHENANDOAH – A longtime Shenandoah tradition returned to downtown storefronts Wednesday.
Shenandoah Valley High School students took to Main Street to add a little bit of Halloween flair to storefronts up and down the central business district.
It’s been a tradition for SV since at least the 1960’s.
Creative creations ranged from ghosts to television show characters to Francesco’s jarred sauce, among others. Participating businesses, storefronts, and entities included the Rescue Hook and Ladder Fire Co., Francesco’s, DiMaggio’s, Downtown Shenandoah, Inc., Go2 Laundromat, and more.
The tradition dates back at least to 1964, when the former Shenandoah Merchants Association sponsored it as a contest.
Today, it is an effort of the Shenandoah Valley High School Art Club, overseen by Jennifer Zemek.
