ASHLAND – Hundreds came out Tuesday to the second annual Ashland Community Night at Memorial Field.

“Just an all-around great event for the town, I love having everybody from the community come here, Ashland Police Chief Ger Daley told the Sentinel. “The turnout is just as great as it was last year, and we hope to keep doing this every year and making it bigger and better.”

First responders and community organizations from Ashland and beyond were set up, either showing the tools of the trade, demonstrating what they do, connecting with the community, or all of the above.

Smokey the Bear and the Mrs. T’s Pierogy Man both made appearances as well.

Fire apparatus from Ashland’s two fire companies were on display along with units from Ashland’s Washington Hose EMS, as well as Ashland Police and Butler Township Police.

Pennsylvania Canine Search and Rescue from Lancaster County had two of their canines and conducted a search and rescue demonstration.

The Schuylkill County Sheriff’s Office offered fingerprinting as well.

Geisinger LifeFlight was initially scheduled to appear, but Daley said an emergency call precluded the appearance.
