POTTSVILLE – County commissioners voted this week to adopt an updated Hazard Mitigation Plan, and you can help guide what’s next.
The plan, referred to by the county as “Our Resilience Strategy,” is the product of two years of work, collaboration, and gathering data and lived experience.
“We’re not waiting for the next disaster to act,“ said Commissioner Larry Padora. “Everyone’s working together – agencies, local governments, and community partners – to make it happen. It’s a big step forward for Schuylkill County.”
“This isn’t just a plan on paper – it’s already in motion,” said Commissioner Barron “Boots” Hetherington. “We’ve adopted it, we’ve started the work, and we’re committed to seeing it through.”
As part of ongoing community involvement, the County invites residents to join “Picture Schuylkill County: Imagine a Thriving, Resilient Schuylkill County.”
Community members are encouraged to share photos and ideas that showcase what makes their neighborhoods strong—or what could make them even better.
Contributions will be displayed on a County Vision Wall and will help shape future planning efforts.
