Aqua garage fire ruled accidental

KAYLEE LINDENMUTH / SHENANDOAH SENTINEL - Firefighters at the scene of a garage fire on North Ferguson Street in Shenandoah on Nov. 1, 2023.

SHENANDOAH – Wednesday’s fire at Aqua Pennsylvania’s downtown garage has been ruled accidental, Shenandoah Fire Chief Rick Examitas said Thursday evening.

The fire broke out around 1pm at the distribution garage in the 100 block of North Ferguson Street. Aqua’s distribution workers are based out of the garage and an adjoining garage. At one time, the Municipal Authority of the Borough of Shenandoah garage was across Lloyd Street from the garages.

Examitas said the fire was caused by a malfunctioning appliance, and no injuries were reported.

Trooper John Szczyglak of the State Police Frackville barracks investigated, he said.

A second alarm was struck to ensure manpower in the midday, bringing crews from Girardville, Pottsville, and more to the scene.
