SHENANDOAH – A sinkhole nearly swallowed an SUV on North White Street in front of the former Lith’s Club Saturday evening.

First responders were called to the area of East Coal and North White Streets around 6:30pm for the incident.

A Dodge Durango SUV was headed north on White Street when fresh pavement above a water authority repair gave way underneath its right front tire.

Neighbors said the Municipal Authority of the Borough of Shenandoah (MABS) had recently performed repair work there. Beneath the fresh pavement was a roughly six-foot void.

No one was injured and Steve’s Towing removed the vehicle from the hole and it was able to be driven away.

The borough streets department was at the scene Friday to close the road from White to Coal.
