Work begins on drainage culvert at Coal and Walnut

SHENANDOAH – Work has begun to repair an intersection which has been closed to traffic for much of the year so far.
Crews from A One Service, Shenandoah, began work to repair a partially collapsed drainage culvert under the intersection of Coal and Walnut Streets on Shenandoah’s west end.
The intersection, in the “Flats” section of the borough, has been closed since around February 4.
At the February meeting of Shenandoah Borough Council, council president Leo Pietkiewicz said, “It is not a mine subsidence, it is an old drainage culvert tied into our combined system.”
The intersection was closed to traffic as a precaution after a sinkhole opened in the roadway.
