Men identified, charged, sought for Family Dollar burglary

SHENANDOAH – Two men have been identified and warrants have been issued for their arrest after a burglary at the Shenandoah Family Dollar on the west end Tuesday night.

Kevin Kerner, 35, of 159 Middle Avenue, Ashland, and Glen Stitzer, 38, of 507 Hobart Street, Gordon, are wanted on felony burglary and criminal trespass charges.

According to the criminal complaints filed against them by Shenandoah Police Captain Travis Bowman, police were called to the Family Dollar at 640 West Centre Street around 10:45pm for a business burglar alarm.

An employee had just closed the store and called in the alarm, saying he looked at the security cameras on his phone and saw two men inside.

Shenandoah and West Mahanoy Township police officers arrived and searched the building to no avail. With the manager, they then reviewed the surveillance camera footage. At 10:26pm, two Family Dollar employees were seen leaving, locking the door behind them.

A tan Hyundai sedan was parked in the lot at that time and, shortly after the employees left, two men got out of the sedan and pulled the locked doors of the store open.

Inside, they made their way into a part of the store that is out of camera view, placed a white object on top of an aisle, and left in their vehicle.

They were inside the store for about three minutes and police said, while they handled some merchandise, it did not appear that they swiped anything.

Store personnel told police that, when they opened the doors, an audible alarm was triggered and “there is no possibility that they did not hear the alarm.”

In an attempt to identify the two men, police posted their photos to Facebook and tips were generated identifying Kerner and Stitzer.

Charges were filed Thursday against the men and they are not yet in custody.

The vehicle they used is a tan Hyundai Elantra with PA license plate number EHV-2205.
