Winter Storm Watch issued in Schuylkill Co.; Mahanoy issues snow ban

MAHANOY CITY – A snow ban is in effect in Mahanoy City over the weekend as the National Weather Service says 4 to 7 inches of snow are possible.

The NWS at State College issued a Winter Storm Watch for Schuylkill County for Saturday morning through Sunday morning.

They say total snow accumulations of 4 to 7 inches are expected, with a light glaze of ice possible.

“The worst travel conditions are expected Saturday afternoon through Saturday night, especially along Interstates 80 and 81, with snowfall rates in excess of one inch per hour at times creating snow covered roads and poor visibility,” the weather service says.

In Mahanoy City, a snow ban is in effect from noon Saturday until noon Sunday, prohibiting parking on Main, Centre, and South streets, as well as on Liberty Hill.
