W. Brunswick woman announces run for commissioner
POTTSVILLE – A West Brunswick Township woman has entered the race for the Republican party’s nomination for County Commissioner.
Mary Jo Moss, a native of Wayne Township and Lake Wynonah, announced her candidacy Tuesday.
She is described as “an enthusiastic and positive person who serves her community with endless energy.”
“As program director for the Young Entrepreneurs Academy (YEA!) of the Schuylkill Chamber of Commerce, Moss was devoted to children and families across the county,” Tuesday’s release said. “She recruited students in every school district, STC, Scouts BSA, 4-H, and the County Fair to provide hands-on experience for starting a business. Moss says that training programs such as YEA! help build the workforce Schuylkill County needs for economic growth.”
Moss has a degree in electrical engineering from Lehigh University, Bethlehem, and a fellowship in Educational Policy and Leadership in Harrisburg. She worked at AT&T, later Lucent Technologies, as a senior product engineer and as supervisor of manufacturing and testing operations.
For over 20 years, she has served on various boards, including for the Schuylkill Technology Center, Schuylkill Intermedia Unit 29, and the Blue Mountain School District. She has also been on the boards for Schuylkill Women In Crisis, the Walk-In Art Center of Schuylkill Haven, and the Victim Witness Advisory Board.
Moss was also an advocate for Agriculture, Science, Technology, and Math (AgSTEM) at Blue Mountain.
She is currently a board member for Hamburg Ambulance in Berks County and is chair of the Schuylkill County Zoning Hearing Board.
“Mary Jo Moss has a consistent record of fighting for taxpayers and is especially concerned about senior citizens and veterans,” Tuesday’s release said. “She realizes that we face significant challenges with inflation, wages, blight and property reassessment. [She] is committed to improving the quality of life through economic development and by protecting land and natural resources.”
“Schuylkill County is a hidden gem where family values and a strong work- ethic have always been our strengths,” Moss said. “As Commissioner I will work hard to serve this great county so we can move forward together. I ask for your vote on May 16.”
