POTTSVILLE – Barron “Boots” Hetherington, the Pattersonville man appointed in 2020 to fill the remainder of Frank Staudenmeier’s term on county commissioners, is running to stay on the board.

Hetherington announced his bid last week, noting he had received the most signatures of any candidate in the Republican primary election.

He is seeking the Republican nomination in this year’s election.

Hetherington currently serves as chairman of the board of commissioners.

“When I volunteered for this position, my goal was to help serve our community,” Hetherington said in a statement. “My commitment to leading Schuylkill County with integrity and fiscal conservancy has not waivered. Within weeks of being appointed to the board, I was named Chairman and through collaborative leadership, we have been able to hold the line on county spending with no county tax increases during my term.”

Hetherington thanked the 45 volunteers and supporters who helped circulate petitions for his candidacy, and the 1,500 voters who signed those petitions.

“Your support indicates you approve of how I have led the county through the uncertainty of COVID and other trials and you agree with my vision for the future,” Hetherington said. “I am keenly aware that I work for the people of Schuylkill County, a job that I take immeasurable pride in and am committed to 24/7/365.”

“If elected, my plan is to continue to serve as the lead advocate for the needs of Schuylkill County’s citizens, focusing on expanding economic development opportunities, attracting people and jobs to our county, attacking blight in our communities, supporting our first responders and police officers, and continuing to improve the quality of services offered by the Schuylkill County government.”

Hetherington was appointed by the county commissioners in April of 2020 to fill the remainder of Frank Staudenmeier’s term. Staudenmeier had just been elected to a four year term, which would last until January 2024.
