Union Township man nets 34 ribbons at Bloom Fair; locals get 156 ribbons

BLOOMSBURG – Some northern Schuylkill residents earned ribbons for their entries in the Bloomsburg Fair, with one valley man netting nearly three dozen.

Dave Briggs, of Union Township, told the Sentinel at the fair Thursday that he’s been entering various agricultural products for about two decades now.

“Since 2004,” Briggs said. “The year prior, I was up here with a friend walking around, and I said ‘My kohlrabies look better than [those entered]. So I entered them next year.”

Briggs said he entered a wide variety of agricultural products, including beets, dill, kale, sunflower, cabbage, and more.

In all, he earned two first place ribbons, 16 seconds, and six thirds.

Briggs was not the only local to earn a ribbon for a fair entry. In total, 156 ribbons were earned by northern Schuylkill area residents, including 19 by Shenandoah residents.
