Triplex suffers partial collapse on east end

SHENANDOAH – A long-abandoned triplex on North Emerick Street suffered a partial collapse Wednesday night.

Shenandoah Police and fire chiefs were called to the unit block of North Emerick Street for the incident around 11:00pm.

Crews arrived to find the south wall of 9 North Emerick had collapsed and was leaning on the rear of 301 East Centre, the former Jermyn’s Bar building.

9 North Emerick is the south section of a triplex, three connected homes, that has been abandoned for nearly two decades. Both 9 and 13 have trees growing within them.

No damage to 301 East Centre was apparent Wednesday night.

According to the Schuylkill County Parcel Locator, the three buildings are owned by the Borough of Shenandoah, and have been since Sept. 30, 2003.

Borough police surrounded the homes with crime scene tape, and fire chiefs will notify the borough in the morning.

  1. Speaking of collapsed houses I live at 308 w.penn street Shenandoah. And I have a house 306 w.penn street. That collapsed and in to my house which is blocking my entry way also me and my neighbors fire escape .I have my 3 grandkids living with me if god forbid there’s a fire we’re all dead there’s no way out.if u can come look at it maybe write about it.cause none can help.so plz I would appreciate it.thankyou.Roseann kelly .
