Shenandoah hires full-time police officer

SHENANDOAH – Shenandoah borough will soon have a new full-time police officer.

The borough unanimously approved the hiring of Mark Hysock, who is also a Shenandoah firefighter, at Monday night’s council meeting.

Hysock’s hiring brings the borough police force up to five full-time officers, including Chief George Carado.

The hiring is contingent on final background approval.

In other business, council approved:

  • a repository sale bid for 109 Rock Street and 224 West Coal Street;
  • handicapped parking for 625 and 627 West Coal Streets;
  • the assignment of 418 South Main Street to the former Pennsylvania Railroad station and 730 West Centre Street to the sewer authority pumping station, as per a request from the Schuylkill County Office of Public Safety;
  • a request by the Shenandoah Heights Fire Co. to hang banners at Main and Centre Streets ahead of the company’s 100th Anniversary celebration on July 1;
  • a request by the Shenandoah Rescue Hook and Ladder Fire Co. to block East Coal from White to Main Streets for their block party on August 4, 5, and 6, as well as to prohibit parking in the 200 block of North Main Street on August 4, and a letter to the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board per their special event license.
