Shen. Valley names Bench HSFB head coach

SHENANDOAH – The Blue Devils have a new head coach, one who is familiar with the team.

The Shenandoah Valley School Board unanimously approved hiring Dave Bench as head varsity football coach at a short special meeting Monday night.

Bench was an assistant coach last year and has been a youth sports coach in Shenandoah for several years.

He takes over a storied, but recently struggling, football program from Ed Moran, who snapped the longest losing streak in the history of Blue Devil football at 34, but had a 6-34 record in four seasons. The Devils have not had a winning season since 2012.

Bench was not at Monday’s meeting.
