RINGTOWN – This borough recently approved a resolution to seek a grant from the statewide Local Share Account program to replace the borough’s water tank.

The resolution was approved at Monday night’s regular council meeting.

Jennifer Kowalonek, a project engineer with Alfred Benesch and Co., prepared the resolution, which would seek a grant of up to $1 Million, though the cost likely would not be that high.

The project would be to replace the aging water tank that serves the borough and explore other needs for the borough water system.

She suggested that if council moves forward with replacing the product, they should conduct a study to see where the best location would be.

“It’s 100% grant. There is no match,” Kowanlonek said. “It is probably going to be the most competitive grant that the Commonwealth Financing Authority has ever seen.”

The grant program is funded through gaming revenues from casinos and horse racing venues around the state.

In other business, council approved the appointment of Jeff Rakus to the recreation committee.

Mayor Phil Beaver also mentioned that Monday’s meeting fell on the Columbus Day holiday and suggested that the meeting be moved to another day if it falls on the day again.

“All the banks, post offices, everybody else is closed,” Beaver said. “How about if we have a meeting like this, we push it off a week, since it’s a holiday.”

Council President Len Kamarousky said he would consider moving the meeting to a Tuesday if so.
