FOUNTAIN SPRINGS – Hazleton Area’s unified bocce teams left Fountain Springs Friday afternoon with a clean sweep of the Spartans.

That sweep, though, came with a nail-biting overtime finish in the final match.

Both Hazleton and North Schuylkill field two teams in the unified sport sanctioned by Special Olympics Pennsylvania, so Friday’s event at NS included four matches.

In the first set of matches, Hazleton 1 defeated North Schuylkill 1 10-3, and HA 2 defeated NS 2 7-5.

The second set of matches, Hazleton 2 won 13-3 over North Schuylkill 1, but the Spartans’ second squad forced overtime against Hazleton 1. Though, the Cougars overcame and won 8-5.

Hazleton 1 completed their season with a 6-1 record and Hazleton 2 with a 4-3 record and both qualify for playoffs later this month.

North Schuylkill 1 finished 3-4 and North Schuylkill 2 finished 2-5 and conclude their season.
