PennDOT installs turn lane signs downtown

KAYLEE LINDENMUTH / SHENANDOAH SENTINEL - A new sign designating the left lane as a turn lane is seen at Main and Centre.

SHENANDOAH – PennDOT installed new signs alerting drivers of the traffic patterns at town’s principal intersection this week.

Signs designating the left lane at Main and Centre as a left turn lane were installed this week by H&K Group, the contractor working on the Route 924 improvement project.

Before the signs, the traffic pattern was marked only by lines painted by Shenandoah Borough, which fade away after a year.

Since then, near-misses have been a common occurrence at the intersection as drivers, either unaware or inconsiderate of the traffic pattern, have used the left turn lane as a straight lane while others used the right lane for the same purpose.

PennDOT, contacted several weeks ago about the issue, reiterated that signs would be installed and that the lines were the borough’s responsibility.
