SHENANDOAH – The Polish American Fire Company’s annual block party kicked off Friday with a fire truck parade, drawing units from across the Anthracite Region, plus a performance by Toolshed Jack.

The block party, held in the unit block of North West Street next to the firehouse, continues this afternoon with food sales beginning at 4pm and a performance by Red Halo from 6pm to 9pm.

The event features the usual variety of foods, including bleenies, kielbasi sandwiches, pierogies, and more, plus games of chance.

This year’s parade included fire apparatus from as far as Natalie, Coal Township, Kulpmont, and Coaldale. The parade zig-zagged the streets of Shenandoah, including the Turkey Run section of the borough.

The Polish American’s volunteers were supplemented throughout the day by personnel from the Yorkville Fire Company from the Yorkville section of Pottsville, and the Schuylkill Hose Company of Schuylkill Haven.
