Hysock resigns from Shenandoah police force

KAYLEE LINDENMUTH / SHENANDOAH SENTINEL FILE - Shenandoah Borough Police Patrolman Mark Hysock, left, talks to Shenandoah firefighter and State Police fire marshal Joseph Hall.

SHENANDOAH – The Shenandoah borough police force is losing a full-time officer, borough council said Monday night.

Patrolman Mark Hysock submitted a letter of resignation effective Jan. 24.

“I am grateful that I was given the opportunity to begin my police career with the Shenandoah Borough Police Department,” Hysock wrote in his letter, read aloud by Council President Joe Boris. “It is an honor to be trusted to serve the residents of the borough and I hope I did well.”

Hysock wrote that he is seeking employment with a new department.

He was hired as a full-time officer in June of 2023 and made headlines in December after he rescued a child from a burning Shenandoah Heights home.

Councilman Michael Whitecavage urged that, after council accepted his resignation, the law and order committee meet immediately “to see that all proper protocols are being followed.”
