Girardville firefighter escapes injury in crash; road remains closed for unrelated fuel spill

HOMESVILLE – A Girardville firefighter was not injured when his work truck rolled over in this Butler Township village Monday afternoon.

Firefighters were called to the area of West Mahanoy Avenue (Route 54) and Homesville Road in Butler Township just after 4pm for the crash.

Crews arrived to find a white Ford utility truck on its side between the split and Big Mine Run Road.

The driver, a Girardville volunteer firefighter, had to be helped from the vehicle.

Butler Township Police said he was not injured. He was the only occupant in the work truck.

The driver was headed east towards Girardville on Route 54 when he lost control of the truck, left the roadway, struck a guiderail, and rolled.

Firefighters from Girardville and Ashland responded along with EMS from Shenandoah and Mahanoy City.

Route 54 between Ashland and Girardville remains closed as of 5:30pm due to a fuel spill at the crash scene unrelated to the crash itself.

A PennDOT crew is en route to handle that spill.
