SHENANDOAH – Pottsville Area’s former band director, and the father of Shenandoah Valley band director John Shoener, will join the staff of SV’s band for 2019.

The Shenandoah Valley School Board approved Craig Shoener as a volunteer band assistant pending receipt of clearances at their meeting Wednesday night.

Craig Shoener was reassigned from the Pottsville post earlier this month after nine years leading the Crimson Tide band. According to Coal Region Canary, he was only the sixth band director in Pottsville Area’s history, and was reassigned to serve as a music teacher at D.H.H. Lengel Middle School.

Though 75 people attended last week’s meeting of the Pottsville Area School Board, and just shy of 1,300 people signed a petition to keep Craig Shoener as PAHS’ band director, the board took no action in favor.

Craig will now join sons John (director) and Jacob (band assistant) on Shenandoah Valley’s band staff.
