Crash knocks out power for nearly 80 in Fountain Springs area; no injuries reported

FOUNTAIN SPRINGS – About 80 PPL Electric Utilities customers in rural Butler Township near here are without power as of 10:30pm after a vehicle accident.

The crash happened around 8:30pm on Beaver Dam Road near Malone’s Road and Stagecoach Road, the base of the old Centre Turnpike.

A Kia sedan was travelling south on Malone’s Road, turning the corner onto Beaver Dam Road, when the driver told Butler Township Police a deer jumped into the road.

The car crossed the oncoming lane and struck a utility pole, pulling the service lines from a nearby home and knocking out power along Malone’s Road, Beaver Dam Road, and Turnpike Road. At one point, it was believed the crash had sparked a house fire, but no fire was found.

No injuries were reported in the crash and police are investigating.

PPL was on scene and is working to restore power. According to the utility’s outage map, that should happen later tonight.

Firefighters from Fountain Springs, Englewood, and Ashland responded along with Ashland Police and Ashland EMS, assisting Butler Township Police.
